On June 30, Fort Worth firefighters did more than just put out flames. Days after battling a massive six-alarm blaze, crews returned to the scene. Not with hoses, but with heart.
Displaced families, including some now residing in the Benbrook area, provided detailed lists and maps showing the location of essential items within their damaged apartments. Firefighters used those notes to retrieve cherished belongings, from baby photos to medication, under intense heat and pressure.
Wagons rolled out full of memories, not rubble, as residents reunited with what they thought might be lost forever. The fire may be out, but the service continues to burn strong.
