I-20 commuters near Benbrook hit a wall of red lights Thursday 40 minutes before 5 pm rush hour traffic after a serious multi-vehicle rollover crash.
By 5:18 PM, all westbound lanes were completely shut down. Soon after, eastbound traffic took a hit too, as cars were diverted through a median cut-through.
This wreck, involving an 18 wheeler and other vehicles, brought I-20 traffic in both directions and all lanes to a full stop around the 421-mile marker, not far from I-20/I-30 lane consolidation.
First responders from Fort Worth Fire, MedStar, and multiple law enforcement agencies flooded the scene, with reports of at least three heavily damaged vehicles and dozens of emergency units responding for the 10 or more injuries sustained. No fatalities have been reported at the time of this writing.
Drivers reported sitting still for nearly an hour, some throwing their cars into park with no movement in sight. Tow trucks and emergency crews worked to untangle the wreckage, but delays piled up. Texas Department of Transportation is on the scene addressing fluid clean up.
Officials advised drivers to avoid I-20 in both directions near the crash site and to seek alternate routes.
As of 9:00 PM, the I-20 westbound remains closed. I-20 eastbound is back open and navigable.
More updates will be shared as new information is released.
