For three quarters Thursday night, Benbrook and Eastern Hills traded momentum under the lights at Herman Clark Stadium. In the fourth, one late turnover helped swing it for good.
Coming off their first district win, the Bobcats entered the FOX4+ Sonic Game of the Week at 3-1 and looking to move to 2-0 in district play. Eastern Hills arrived with the same overall record and a ground game that had already helped the Highlanders pile up 184 points through four games.
That running game showed itself early. After recovering Benbrookโs opening squib kick at the Bobcatsโ 40, Eastern Hills worked its way downfield and scored from 21 yards out for a 6-0 lead.
Benbrookโs offense struggled to find a rhythm through much of the first half, but the defense delivered the play it needed. Bobcat Brayden King jumped a route and intercepted it 62 yards downfield for a touchdown, sending the teams into halftime tied 6-6.

The Bobcats looked different coming out of the locker room. A balanced 35-yard scoring drive ended with Ayden Bruck running in from seven yards, and Corbin Biggins added the extra point to give Benbrook a 13-6 lead.
Eastern Hills answered with a touchdown and two-point conversion to retake the lead, 14-13, before Benbrook responded again early in the fourth. Lucas Davis connected with Dorien Johnson for a touchdown, and another Biggins PAT put the Bobcats back in front, 20-14.
But the Highlanders went back to the ground. A series of plays led to a 29-yard touchdown and a successful two-point conversion to make it 22-20.
Benbrook still had a chance, but a holding penalty put the Bobcats behind schedule on their next possession. Davis was then intercepted, with the return taking Eastern Hills to the Benbrook 6 with 1:45 remaining. The Highlanders turned the short field into one final touchdown and two-point conversion to close out the 30-20 win.
Eastern Hills finished with 284 total yards to Benbrookโs 179. Davis completed 14 of 25 passes for 138 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Quentin Thomas led the Bobcats on the ground with 51 yards on 14 carries, while Tyler Newman had 45 receiving yards on two catches.
Benbrook went toe-to-toe with Eastern Hills for most of the night, but a late interception and short-field touchdown proved too much for the Bobcats to overcome.
The loss drops Benbrook to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. Theyโll return to Clark Stadium next Thursday, Oct. 8, to face Kennedale, which enters the matchup 4-1 overall and 2-0 in district.
