Families and educators across the Benbrook and Western Hills school pyramids are being asked to add their names to a districtwide effort opposing highly scripted classroom lessons.
Organizers say the signup is meant to show FWISD leadership where support exists for protecting teacher professional judgment and moving away from what they describe as “highly scripted instruction.” The effort is independently organized and is not an official FWISD petition.
For Benbrook, the pyramid includes Benbrook Middle-High School, Benbrook Elementary, Rolling Hills Elementary, and Westpark Elementary.
The Western Hills pyramid includes Western Hills High School, Leonard Middle School, Luella Merrett Elementary, Waverly Park Elementary and Western Hills Elementary, according to FWISD’s current feeder-pyramid directory.
Organizers are asking parents, educators, and community members to sign once and select the pyramid connected to their school or community. Their stated goal is to demonstrate that concerns about scripted lessons extend beyond any one FWISD campus or neighborhood.
