The One That Got Away, and the Bobcats Who Stood Out.

Some losses hurt more than others, and last Friday night’s 50-49 loss to Castleberry was one that got away from the Bobcats.

The Bobcats put up 405 yards and seven touchdowns, battled through a back-and-forth night, and still had a chance until the very last play. The final heave did not fall Benbrook’s way, leaving the Bobcats one point short after an offensive performance that deserved a better ending.

But a tough final score does not erase the work that got them there.

Benbrook recognized Quentin Thomas as Offensive Skill Player of the Game after rushing 16 times for 103 yards and 3 TDs. Griffin Womack earned Offensive Line honors, while Braden King was named Defensive Skill Player of the Game and Izaiah Smith earned Defensive Line honors.

The Bobcats also recognized Makyle Nunez and Westin Lawrence for their work on the scout team, the kind of behind-the-scenes effort that helps prepare everyone else for Friday night.

Benbrook finished with 204 yards through the air and another 197 on the ground. The Bobcats’ passing game produced three touchdowns, while the ground attack was led by Thomas’ 103 yards. No. 3 added 82 rushing yards on seven carries, and No. 1 led the receivers with six catches for 101 yards.

Coming that close and watching it slip away on the final play will sting for a while. But one point doesn’t erase what these Bobcats put on the field that night, or the individual performances that kept Benbrook in it until the very end.

Now, they take the good from Friday night and get back to work for their next game at 7pm on September 25th against Southwest Raiders at Handley Field.
