We spend a lot of time thinking about saving for retirement and growing our money. But Benbrook financial professional Leslie Cowdrey says there’s another piece families shouldn’t overlook: protecting the people who depend on us.
“Life insurance is the foundation of a financial plan,” Cowdrey says.
Term life insurance can provide more coverage at a lower cost during the years a family may need it most. Whole life is designed for permanent coverage and can build cash value over time.
Cowdrey also encourages parents and grandparents to consider coverage for children while they’re young and healthy, which can help protect their ability to qualify for coverage later in life.
But her advice isn’t simply to buy another policy. If you already have life insurance but couldn’t explain what it covers, she says you’re far from alone.
Cowdrey offers policy reviews to help families understand what they already have and spot possible gaps, without pressure or obligation.
Her analogy is a good one: make sure the foundation is there before spending all your time decorating the rest of the house.
