For generations of Texas hunters, Sept. 1 has meant an early alarm, a favorite hunting spot, and the familiar sound of dove season getting underway.
Opening day arrived Tuesday with something new for 2026. For the first time in Texas hunting history, all three dove hunting zones open on Sept. 1, bringing hunters across the state into the field on the same day.
For many families, the tradition is about more than the hunt itself. It’s also time outdoors together and an opportunity to introduce a younger generation to hunting.
