Texas leaders say more work is being done to help children in foster care find safe, stable, and permanent homes.
Governor Greg Abbott recently announced the state is joining the federal “A Home for Every Child” initiative, a partnership aimed at strengthening foster care systems, expanding kinship placements, and reducing barriers that can slow down the foster and adoption process.
The announcement comes during National Foster Care Month and focuses on increasing access to licensed foster homes while helping more children remain connected to family support systems when possible.
State officials say Texas continues facing a shortage of foster homes, creating challenges for children needing stability and long-term care. The initiative also seeks to reduce unnecessary regulations that may discourage qualified families from becoming foster parents.
Abbott said every child deserves “a safe, stable, loving home,” while federal officials noted the effort is designed to improve outcomes for children and families across participating states.
As conversations around foster care continue statewide, the initiative highlights an ongoing reality affecting thousands of Texas children: the need for more families willing to open their homes and provide long-term support during difficult seasons of life.
