Bobcat Football Leaders Lean Into Hard Lessons in Week 3 Study.

While most of Benbrook winds down after a long day, a group of Bobcat football players is choosing a different kind of work.

In Week 3 of the team’s Leadership Council, players turned their attention to two chapters from Win In The Dark, focusing on what it means to grow when no one is watching. The message was direct. Progress does not come from comfort.

Chapter 7, often summed up as “Be the Buffalo,” challenges players to face pressure head-on. Instead of avoiding hard moments, the lesson calls for stepping into them. The idea is simple. The sooner you face it, the sooner you get through it.

Chapter 8 shifts to what the book calls “The Twin Thieves.” Fear and distraction. Both are quiet, but both can stall growth before it starts. Fear of failure. Fear of judgment. The pull of everything that takes focus away from what matters. Together, they can slow down even the most talented players.

For the Bobcats, the takeaway was not just about football. It was about discipline, focus, and the kind of toughness that shows up long before Friday night lights.

“Champions are built when nobody is watching.”

That line carried the day, as it will this upcoming season. As the season moves forward, so does the work behind the scenes. Not loud. Not always seen. But steady.
