A strong couple of days on the court turned into a big step forward for Western Hills tennis.
At the 4A District Tennis Tournament earlier this week, nine Cougar players finished in the top four, with five earning spots at the Regional Tournament in Lubbock later this month.
Vianet Garcia and Jessica Hernandez led the way, taking first place in girls’ doubles.
Diego Hernandez followed with a second-place finish in boys singles, while Daviahn Ervin and Mohammed Soumahoro placed second in boys doubles. All five will move on to regionals.
Other top finishes included Daisy Daniels and Vivian Hernandez, who placed fourth in girls’ doubles, along with Juan Duran and Isabel Alcala, who took fourth in mixed doubles.
More than half the varsity team left the tournament with medals, giving Western Hills a strong showing and a group headed west with a chance to keep the season going.
