It was a day full of pride and celebration at Western Hills High School as students returned home from the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament with a clean sweep of medals.
The tournament, held on February 3, brought together athletes from across the district. Western Hills students from the RISE and Deaf Ed programs competed in divisions with up to six participants, with only four medals awarded per group. Every Cougar athlete earned a medal, bringing home a total of eight and making the achievement even more meaningful.
Medal winners included Valentina Suarez and Emily Saldaña with first-place finishes, Michelle Zamora and Brayden Bossier earning second, Thomas Garcia, Cecelia Hernandez, and Liliana Aranda taking third, and Angel Garcia placing fourth. The results reflected not only strong play, but also determination, teamwork, and heart.
For the school community, it was a reminder that success comes in many forms and that effort and courage matter just as much as the scoreboard. Photos from the event can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BwmRQxasZ/.
Cougar pride was on full display, and it was well earned.
