A serious and tragic traffic incident brought I-20 to a standstill in southwest Fort Worth on Monday evening, just after 5:30 p.m., after a multi-vehicle crash involving at least 9 vehicles, including an overturned vehicle, on eastbound I-20 near Bryant Irvin Road.
First responders confirmed the incident resulted in a fatality, prompting the closure of all eastbound lanes and extended delays across the area.
Fort Worth Police and Fire crews arrived quickly at a chaotic scene marked by heavy damage and debris scattered across the roadway.
Witnesses described multiple vehicles involved, the originating vehicle resting on its side, and traffic grinding to a halt. By 7:18 pm, backups stretched as far as the I-20/I-820 split, according to traffic camera data from the Texas Department of Transportation.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes as investigators continue their work and cleanup efforts remain ongoing.
