Sometimes the most motivating stories are the ones that feel closest to home.
This week, the Benbrook Community Center YMCA is shining a light on Laurie Carey, its Member of the Month, and her journey is resonating with people across the community.
After retiring in 2023, Laurie made a decision many talk about, but few fully commit to. She chose to prioritize her health, even though stepping into a gym felt unfamiliar and a little intimidating at first.
What she found instead was a welcoming environment where progress came at her own pace. Consistency turned into confidence, and before long, daily visits became part of her routine.
And the changes were not just physical. Staff and fellow members noticed her energy, her dedication, and her willingness to encourage others along the way.
That kind of transformation captures what the Y aims to be for Benbrook. It is not just a place to exercise, but a place where people support one another in caring for their spirit, mind, and body.
