The Western Hills Cougar Band had the experience of a lifetime this past weekend, taking the field with the University of North Texas Green Brigade during the UNT vs. Washington State football game at High School Band Day.
Students spent the morning rehearsing alongside college musicians, preparing a Blues Brothers–themed halftime performance that electrified the crowd. The highlight came when legendary trombonist Tom “Bones” Malone, known for his work with The Blues Brothers, Saturday Night Live, and The Late Show with David Letterman, joined the ensemble on stage.
Among the hundreds of performers, Cougar pride shined bright with senior Donte Richards and freshman Ja’Res Gray featured in the lineup. The event gave students not just a chance to showcase their talent, but also a glimpse of college-level musicianship and inspiration for what could come next.
