The Western Hills Cougars nearly pulled off a comeback Friday night but fell just short in a 28-21 battle against Dallas Hillcrest.
With under two minutes left, the Cougars drove to the 5-yard line before sophomore quarterback Tyler Johnston went down with a hyperextended ankle, sealing the heartbreaking finish.
Despite the loss, Johnston delivered standout stats and the entire team showed grit on both sides of the ball, making Hillcrest earn every point. Coaches praised the resilience and heart of the squad, naming Rodney Hill (Offense), Grayson Ehirim (Defense), Jonathan Riveros (Special Teams), Daviahm Ervin (O-Line), and Josh Raga (D-Line) as Players of the Week.
Now 1-1, the Cougars hit the road Friday, September 19, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff against Community, determined to turn lessons learned into a stronger performance.
