Residents in Benbrook are sounding the alarm after discovering yellow-tinted tap water pouring from their faucets this week. Photos shared by locals show the discolored water collected in cups and mugs, sparking immediate concerns over water safety and quality.
One resident from Locksley Drive reported calling the city after noticing the problem, prompting a field crew to be dispatched. The cityโs water department advised running the bathtub for ten minutes to flush out the lines, a common fix when sediment is stirred up during maintenance or pipe work.
While some neighbors reported that their water returned to normal after flushing, others across Benbrook continued to experience ongoing issues, including a chlorine-heavy taste, discoloration, and a loss of trust in the system. Many have resorted to bottled water or household filters, such as Pur, Alexa Pure, and Berkey systems, for daily use, with some refusing to cook, water plants, or serve pets with tap water at all.
The concerns highlight a bigger frustration: inconsistent water quality across neighborhoods. Residents in Westpark and Wallace Heights claim they have not experienced the same issues, while others insist that this problem has persisted for months.
The situation highlights the importance of infrastructure maintenance, such as hydrant purging, which helps prevent stagnant water from entering household taps. For now, many Benbrook families are left questioning whether their water is truly safe and whether the city should do more to provide filtration support for residents.
