Before the school day even begins, a group of volunteers is already at work inside the Western Hills Church of Christ kitchen.
With STAAR testing underway, community members gathered early this week to prepare breakfast tacos for students, teachers, and staff at Western Hills High School. The effort starts at 6:00 AM and runs through the morning, with another round planned for Thursday.
About 20 volunteers helped cook and serve on the first day, creating a steady flow of warm meals for students walking in before exams. The response has been immediate, with both students and staff expressing their appreciation.
One message summed it up simply. A senior texted, โMs. Patty, can you please save me two breakfast tacos, I have late arrival!โ
Volunteers say they are open to anyone willing to help, even for a short time, as the community continues to rally around students during an important week.
