Ventana Families Learn Nearyby Elementary Schools Have No Bus Service.

Not far from Benbrook, new Ventana residents are discovering there is no bus transportation to Rolling Hills Elementary, a surprise for families used to districts with more flexible service.

The reason comes down to Texas’s two-mile rule: if a student lives less than two miles from their school, bus service is typically not provided.

While this policy is common across the state, some areas operate differently. In larger metro regions like Houston, students may have pick-up and drop-off points a short walk from campus. In Benbrook, however, families within a two-mile radius are expected to arrange their own transportation.

For some, this means a 30-minute walk in extreme weather. Others are turning to scooters or motorized scooters to make the trip easier. Another option is the on-site YMCA after-school care, which offers weekly rates for parents who need a later pick-up time.
