Planning a Garage Sale in Benbrook? Here’s What You Need to Know.

With summer cleaning and moving season underway, garage sales are popping up across Benbrook. The good news for residents is that the City of Benbrook does not require a permit for garage or estate sales.

However, there are a few rules homeowners should keep in mind.

Garage and estate sales may last no more than three consecutive days, and no more than two three-day sales may be held at the same property during a calendar year.

When it comes to advertising, residents may place one garage sale sign on private property as long as it stays out of the public right-of-way, generally about 10 feet back from the curb. Additional signs may be placed on neighboring properties with the owner’s permission, provided they also remain outside the right-of-way.

Signs are not allowed on utility poles, street signs, traffic signal poles, trees, fire hydrants, medians, or any City-owned property. Any signs placed in prohibited locations may be removed by City officials. All signs must be taken down immediately after the sale ends.

The City also notes that garage sales are intended for the sale of typical used household items. Selling retail merchandise or items purchased specifically for resale is not permitted.

For residents looking to clear out closets, garages, and storage rooms, following these simple guidelines can help ensure a smooth and successful sale.
