Benbrook residents did a double-take this week after a roadside sign hinted at a sudden armadillo problem. The jokes came quickly. Some blamed rats. Others welcomed opossums instead, noting they actually eat ticks, snakes, and yes, even the occasional rat.
But the sign had nothing to do with critters wandering the neighborhood. The real reason was far more glamorous. HighRidge Church quietly became a base camp for the filming of Taylor Sheridan’s hit series “Lioness.” The production is underway for its third season, bringing camera crews, equipment trucks, and a bit of Hollywood buzz to our corner of town.
For those new to the show, “Lioness” follows CIA operative Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña, as she trains elite female agents for high-risk infiltration missions. Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman also star, which means some major star power is working just down the road.
So while the armadillo sign sparked laughs, the truth offered a much bigger story. Benbrook got a front-row seat to the making of a national series, and residents got a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how movie magic often starts with something as simple as a strange sign on the side of the road.
