Drivers heading east on I-20 Saturday evening ran into an unexpected and frustrating scene just after the I-20/820 split, between the US Highway 377 and Bryant Irvin exits.
Around 5:30 pm on December 27, more than 10 vehicles were spotted pulled over with flat tires, with police, fire crews, roadside assistance, and tow trucks lining the shoulder. Several drivers say they were among the first affected, only to look back and see car after car stopping behind them as the situation unfolded.
The cause remains unclear. Some drivers reported a large piece of metal in the roadway, while others believed a box of nails or unsecured debris may have fallen from a passing construction vehicle. Whatever the source, the damage was widespread and fast.
Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid this stretch of highway if possible and use alternate routes while crews work to clear the hazard. For those already impacted, several drivers recommended contacting Armageddon Roadside at https://armageddonroadside.com, noting quick response times and help getting back on the road.
If you are traveling through the area, slow down, stay alert, and give emergency crews plenty of space. Situations like this can turn dangerous in a hurry.
