One of the most charming traditions of Benbrook Heritage Fest is making its return this fall, and local youngsters are invited to saddle up for the fun.
The annual Stick Horse Race will take place at 10:15 a.m. on September 19, 2026, at Dutch Branch Park, giving children ages 7 and under a chance to race alongside fellow cowboys and cowgirls in a friendly competition.
Participants will race for the fastest times in their age divisions, while those who arrive dressed for the occasion can also compete for costume honors. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division and to the top three best-dressed contestants.
The event is free to enter, and every child who participates will receive a goodie bag. While western attire is encouraged, it is not required.
Families interested in participating must register by August 31, 2026. Additional rules and registration information can be found at https://bit.ly/4dkIUG0.
For many families, Heritage Fest is about celebrating Benbrook’s community spirit. For the youngest residents, it might just be about crossing the finish line first.
