Did you know the infamous Lee Harvey Oswald once lived in Benbrook, TX? That’s right, the notorious assassin of President John F. Kennedy moved to Benbrook as a child in 1945.
Oswald and his mother lived in a house on Granbury Rd. Young Oswald enrolled in Benbrook Common School but was withdrawn soon thereafter (1946) as he and his mother relocated again. Oswald would abide in Benbrook for another short stint in 1948, living on San Saba, before moving away for the last time in 1949.
Many have confused another childhood home of Oswald’s as being in Benbrook. However, it was Mercedes Avenue on the West Side of Fort Worth, rather than Mercedes Street in Benbrook, where Oswald stayed.
Neither Benbrook home in which Oswald resided remains standing.
