Thinking about adding a doggie door to your home? You are not alone, but the price tag can vary more than you might expect.
One Benbrook homeowner was quoted $1,200 to have a door installed directly into their wall and wanted to know if that was the norm. Turns out, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.
Some residents have taken the DIY route, buying pre-made doggie doors on Amazon and hiring a handyman to do the install for around $300 to $700, especially when modifying an existing opening.
Others went bigger, replacing their entire back door with a new one that includes a built-in pet door, with prices ranging from $500 at Home Depot to upwards of $2,000 at Loweโs for custom glass options.
If you are working with brick, expect the install to be more involved, and potentially more expensive. One handyman service in the area reportedly charges $800 for the full job, but that does not include the door itself.
Prices vary based on your homeโs layout, the type of door, and whether you are building from scratch or modifying an existing setup. It pays to compare quotes, and in some cases, going the buy-it-yourself route could save you hundreds.
