The Benbrook Bobcats did not need long to answer any questions Tuesday night in Venus.
After dropping a tough championship game in the Godley Kia Basketball Tournament, the Bobcats walked into Venus High School with something to prove. The history between these two programs had been even for years, and a road loss to Venus last November was still fresh. This time, Benbrook made sure the result was never in doubt.
From the opening minutes, the Bobcats played with purpose. Defensive pressure set the tone early, the offense found its rhythm, and the bench energy never dipped. What followed was a complete team effort, with contributions up and down the lineup, as Benbrook pulled away for a decisive 66 to 38 win over the Bulldogs.
The victory pushes the Bobcats to 8-5 on the season and serves as a strong reset heading into district play. That momentum will be tested quickly. Friday night brings a cross-town rivalry matchup with the Western Hills Cougars, tipping off at 8:30 pm.
Whether you back the Bobcats or the Cougars, it is one of those gym-filling nights that makes high school basketball in Benbrook special. Fans are encouraged to show up, be loud, and support their team as district play officially gets underway.
