A viral social media trend called the “door-kicking challenge” has made its way across the country and is now popping up in parts of Texas, including right here in our own neighborhoods.

The challenge, fueled by TikTok and other platforms, involves individuals — often teens — kicking or banging on strangers’ front doors, usually late at night, and recording it for views. While it might seem like a prank to those participating, the reality is far more serious.

Not only is this behavior considered vandalism, but it could also lead to criminal charges. Even worse, startled homeowners may mistake the act for an attempted break-in, creating the potential for dangerous and defensive reactions.

The Fort Worth Police Department recently addressed the issue publicly, urging families to talk with their kids about the real consequences of chasing internet clout at the expense of safety and legality.

Parents and guardians, this is a conversation worth having. A few minutes of social media attention isn’t worth putting someone’s safety — or your child’s future — at risk.
