Benbrook residents will soon see new ownership at one of the city’s notable apartment communities, as AvalonBay Communities finalizes a major expansion in Texas.
The real estate investment firm has entered agreements to acquire eight properties across Dallas-Fort Worth and Greater Austin, totaling 2,701 units, for a staggering $618.5 million.
The deal includes the purchase of Aura Benbrook, a 301-unit complex at 301 Mercedes St., as part of a larger six-property transaction in the DFW metroplex. This portion of the acquisition, valued at $431.5 million, is set to close in the second quarter, with nearly half paid in cash.
AvalonBay’s strategic expansion comes at a time when real estate investment firms are seizing opportunities to acquire assets at competitive prices compared to new construction costs.
For Benbrook, this acquisition could signal potential changes in property management and future investment in local multifamily housing.
