Residents Sound Off on Traffic Light Frustrations Along 377.

If it feels like traffic lights along Highway 377 in Benbrook are dragging longer or cutting short just when you need them most, you’re not alone.

Several residents have noticed changes in light sequencing, especially at key intersections where turn arrows now seem to only allow two or three cars through before flipping back to red.

Some pointed out recent work crews at Winscott and Darnell, hinting at possible adjustments. Others took to debating whether you should pull into the intersection on a flashing yellow, a legal move in Texas but one that stirred strong opinions.

The complaints didn’t stop there. Lights near McDonald’s, Starbucks, and the shooting range sparked deeper conversations about city planning, traffic safety, and whether some lights are even necessary. While some argue that these signals reduce serious accidents and were added following studies and community requests, others feel that the layout lacks common sense and creates more backups than it solves.

One thing most drivers seem to agree on? Benbrook traffic isn’t what it used to be. With the area growing fast, slower commutes might be the new normal.

Still, if you’ve concerns or want to know who handles which lights, the City of Benbrook manages some, but anything tied to TxDOT roads—including much of 377—is outside their control. Questions about local signal timing can be directed to Benbrook’s Street Superintendent at 817-249-6065.

In the meantime, drivers might want to budget a few extra minutes to get through town, and maybe pack a little patience.
