Western Hills JV Tennis Swings Big at District Showdown.

Benbrook’s own Western Hills Cougars JV tennis squad made waves at last week’s 4A/5A District Tournament at McLeland Tennis Center, showing grit, growth, and a whole lot of competitive fire.

While many of the younger players came in just looking for experience, a few surprise wins proved they’re already ready to rally with some of the district’s toughest teams. One of the biggest highlights of the day came from senior Janette Meza and sophomore Diego Hernandez, who stormed through mixed doubles to claim second place—taking down every opponent in straight sets until the finals.

It was a strong finish for Janette’s high school tennis career and a promising sign of things to come for Diego. Across the board, the Cougars brought energy, heart, and hustle to every match.

Now, all eyes turn to Varsity. Next week, Jesus Alvizo, Jacqueline Mares, Elaina Montalvo, and Erick Perez are headed to Lubbock to compete in Regionals at Texas Tech—fighting for a shot at the State stage.

Cougar Country is proud. Let’s go!
