Friday night felt bigger than another district volleyball match at Benbrook Middle-High School.

The gym was packed, both student sections were on their feet, and two of the district’s hottest teams were meeting again. Benbrook had won five straight district matches since losing its opener to Southwest. The Lady Raiders hadn’t lost one.
This time, Southwest left little room for another five-set battle.

The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set and kept Benbrook from settling into a rhythm. The Lady Bobcats made runs, but missed serves and open spots on the floor helped Southwest stay in control for a 25-14 win.
Benbrook looked much sharper in the second. Serves began landing, court spacing improved, and the Lady Bobcats stayed within striking distance. But each time the momentum appeared ready to swing their way, Southwest found an answer and closed out the set 25-21.
Down two sets, Benbrook needed a comeback to keep the match alive. The Lady Bobcats fought through the third, but Southwest never gave up control, taking it 25-14 to complete the sweep.
The loss drops Benbrook to 20-14 overall and 6-2 in district, leaving the Lady Bobcats in second place with six matches remaining. Southwest remains unbeaten in district play at 8-0.
Benbrook now turns its attention to Tuesday night, when the Lady Bobcats travel to face Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 7 p.m. They swept the Lady Eagles in their first meeting and will look to do the same to get back in the win column on the road.
