Two Benbrook City Council candidates are trying something new with their campaigns and asking residents to help drive the conversation.
Greg Clem, candidate for Place 4, and Whitney Hughes, candidate for Place 6, have launched Benbrook Open Forum, a social media series where they plan to post a question three times a week about issues affecting the city. Residents are invited to respond with their own thoughts, concerns, and questions.
The idea follows the candidates’ recent community gathering at the Benbrook Public Library, where dozens of residents could ask questions and talk directly with Clem and Hughes.
The first Open Forum turned to Benbrook schools, with residents asking what they want to know about the city’s relationship with Fort Worth ISD and possible options for greater local control.
Responses ranged from interest in a Benbrook school district to concerns about the cost of operating one. Others pointed to parent involvement and strong PTAs as a way to have more influence now.
The school question is only the beginning. The candidates say Benbrook Open Forum will continue three times each week, giving residents another place to bring up what is on their minds and join the discussion.
Clem and Hughes are campaigning together under the One Benbrook banner while running for separate council seats in the Nov. 3 election.
