For Ashley “Coach Rod” Rodriguez, coaching at Benbrook Middle-High School is about more than competition. It is watching athletes grow in confidence as they learn something new.
Rodriguez coaches varsity cheer and varsity girls track and has spent 11 of her 18 years coaching at Benbrook. She describes her approach with three words: discipline, dedication, and determination.
Coaching also runs in the family. Rodriguez credits her grandfather and mother, both coaches, with inspiring her to follow the same path.
This year, she hopes to lead Benbrook Cheer to a Top 10 finish at UIL. But the part she enjoys most remains closer to home: seeing her athletes develop new skills and believe more in themselves.
Benbrook Middle-High School recently recognized Rodriguez for her contributions to BMHS and the Benbrook community.
