Clem Steps Into Benbrook’s Place 4 Council Race.

The race for Benbrook City Council Place 4 now has a challenger.

Longtime Benbrook resident Greg Clem has announced his candidacy for the seat currently held by Councilmember Dustin Phillips, setting up a contested race ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Clem’s decision comes after more than four decades of calling Benbrook home.

“My wife, Donna, and I have lived in Benbrook for more than 40 years,” Clem shared in announcing his campaign. “We raised our two daughters here, built our life here, and are now the proud grandparents of four granddaughters.”

Clem is a principal engineer at Lockheed Martin and has also been involved locally through Stop South Benbrook Floods, a community group focused on flooding concerns in the area. Residents can find the Stop South Benbrook Floods group on Facebook.

He said his professional experience examining complex issues, solving problems and weighing how decisions affect others would shape his approach on the council.

“I am not running to represent only one neighborhood or one part of Benbrook,” Clem said. “I am running to represent every resident and every neighborhood in our city.”

Benbrook voters will elect council members for Places 2, 4 and 6 on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Based on the current candidate list, incumbent Renee Franklin is seeking Place 2. Phillips and Clem are running for Place 4, while incumbent Laura Mackey and Whitney Hughes are seeking Place 6.

Benbrook municipal elections are typically conducted jointly with Tarrant County.
