AZLE, TX – The Benbrook Bobcats put up a fight in their Class 4A Division 2 bi-district playoff showdown against Eagle Mountain, but the Knights pulled away late for a 60-48 victory Monday night at Azle High School.
It was a game of runs from the start. Eagle Mountain struck first, but Benbrook responded with a 10-2 surge, taking a 10-4 lead midway through the first quarter. The Bobcats closed out the period ahead 19-11, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle.
The Knights came roaring back with a 7-0 run to start the second quarter, cutting the deficit to one. By halftime, the Knights had edged ahead 24-23, and after the break, they never looked back.
With 4:41 left in the fourth, the Knights had built a 53-39 lead, but Benbrook wasn’t done yet. Brennan Barton led the charge, scoring 10 of his game-high 22 points in the final period. His clutch three-pointer with 3:04 remaining brought the Bobcats within seven at 53-46, but that was as close as they would get. Eagle Mountain sealed the win at the free-throw line, hitting seven of eight in the final 35 seconds.
Despite the loss, Benbrook closed the season strong, finishing 18-15 overall, 8-4 in district play, and third in the district standings—a solid campaign that ended with a hard-fought playoff appearance.
Great job, Bobcats! The future is bright, and we’ll be back for more next season.
