A lengthy open letter to Pete Geren is gaining attention online after the group behind “FWISD Watchdog” defended its decision to remain anonymous while criticizing leadership and direction within the Fort Worth Independent School District.
In the letter, the group said it launched the Watchdog page about five years ago after growing frustrated with declining enrollment, leadership turnover, and what it describes as a lack of transparency inside the district.
The group claims it has spent years warning the public about problems inside FWISD, including concerns over student outcomes, district spending, and the increasing role of nonprofits connected to the school system.
The letter also pushed back on comments Geren reportedly made during a recent board meeting, asking who runs the Watchdog page. The group said revealing their identities could put their families, jobs, and children at risk, adding that some members are current or former FWISD employees, parents, graduates, and taxpayers.
Along with criticism, the group did praise one recent change by the board: increasing public comment time during meetings from two minutes to three.
FWISD Watchdog also pointed to its growing online reach, claiming more than 16,000 followers and over 1 million monthly views, and described the page as a place where parents, teachers, and students can safely share concerns confidentially.
The letter ends with a challenge to district leadership, saying the group would gladly “retire” if student outcomes improve and transparency becomes the norm inside FWISD.
