A Look Back at Fort Worth Schools: Local Event Explores FWISD History.

For many in Benbrook and across Fort Worth, the school system is more than a place of learning. It is part of family history.

Generations have passed through its classrooms, cheered in its gyms, and stayed connected long after graduation. Still, the deeper story behind Fort Worth ISD is not always widely known.

That is the focus of an upcoming event titled Slates to Tables: A History of Education in Fort Worth, presented by the Billy W. Sills Center for Archives. The program will feature Quentin McGown and take place Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Fort Worth ISD District Service Center, located at 7060 Camp Bowie Blvd.

The session invites longtime residents, former students, and community supporters to step back and take a closer look at how the district has grown and evolved over time. From early classrooms to the modern system in place today, the event aims to connect the past with the present in a way that feels both personal and relevant.

Those interested in attending or learning more can call 817-814-2040 for additional details.

For a community that continues to invest in its schools, this event offers a chance to better understand the foundation that helped shape it.
