Statewide Emergency Alert Test Set for April 2.

If you’ve noticed signs along I-20 near Winscott or heard chatter on the radio, you’re not alone. Many residents have been asking about a “disaster drill” planned for this week. Here’s what’s actually happening.

According to the City of Fort Worth Office of Emergency Management, Texas will conduct a statewide emergency alert test on Thursday, April 2, as part of a coordinated drill led by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

Mobile alerts will be sent between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., with Fort Worth and Benbrook residents expected to receive theirs around 10 a.m. If you are traveling between cities during that window, you may receive multiple alerts.

This test is focused on communication systems, including how emergency messages are delivered across the state. It is not tied to any real emergency.

One thing residents will not hear is outdoor warning sirens. Those will remain off during this test. The city’s next regular siren test is scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, at 1 p.m.

So, expect an alert on your phone Thursday morning, and know it is just a test designed to make sure systems work when they are truly needed.
