It was less about perfect swings and more about good company and a little friendly pressure at the Benbrook Par 3 Golf Course last week.
Players gathered for the latest scramble, where low scores and lighthearted moments carried the day. Teams finished strong at 4 under, 3 under, and 2 under, with Austin and Kingston taking the top spot after a playoff to break the tie at 4 under.
Off to the side, another kind of competition was drawing attention. The chipping contest crowned its winner, though the larger prize pot remains up for grabs, adding a bit of suspense to future rounds.
Then came the crowd favorite. The “losers game,” a March Madness-style challenge where players literally toss the ball toward the hole instead of chipping it, proved harder than it sounds. With $100 on the line for a make and $50 for closest to the pin, it brought plenty of laughs and just enough pressure to keep things interesting.
At its core, the event was a reminder of what keeps local courses like this one busy. It is not just about the scorecard. It is about showing up, competing a little, and enjoying the moments in between.
