Friday night soccer between Western Hills and Benbrook delivered the kind of finish fans hope for in a rivalry match.
The Western Hills junior varsity boys team traveled to Benbrook for district play and found themselves in a tight battle.
With just seven minutes left, the Cougars were trailing 1 to 0 and in danger of dropping back to back district games after a loss earlier in the week.
Then momentum shifted.
Sebastián Iriarte tied the match with a long free kick that found the net late in the game. A few minutes later, the Cougars struck again.
With just over two minutes remaining, Douglas Cova connected on a header from Iriarte’s corner kick to give Western Hills the lead and the win.
The comeback sealed a 2-1 victory and pushed the JV Cougars to a 12-5 overall record with an 8-1 mark in district play.
The result keeps Western Hills firmly in the district race as the season moves into its final stretch.
