Skywatchers in Benbrook may want to step outside tonight and look north.

According to meteorologist Chris Nunley, a severe geomagnetic storm is underway, creating rare conditions that could make the Northern Lights visible across much of the United States.

The viewing window stretches from tonight through early Tuesday morning, January 19 to 20. If skies stay clear, residents could catch a glimpse of colorful auroras that usually stay far to the north.

The advice is simple. Find a dark spot, limit city lights if possible, and have a camera ready. Even if the colors are faint to the eye, cameras often pick up more detail.
