Cougar Class of 2003 Gives Back in a Big Way.

The Western Hills High School community received a boost this week as the Class of 2003 raised $2,000 for Cougar Corner, the campus program that provides food and essentials to students in need.

The gift, organized by alumna Laura Durham Yancey, will help stock Christmas food bags and support students facing food insecurity during the upcoming break.

Laura reminded fellow alumni that the Cougar Closet and Cougar Corner do more than offer jackets or hygiene items. For many students, the meals they receive at school are the most reliable source of food they have each day. Long weekends and holiday breaks can leave real gaps. Discreet food bags filled with simple meals and snacks help bridge that gap so students are not left hungry when school is closed.

The effort continues, with an Amazon Wishlist, Venmo, and PayPal options, and a call for gift cards to Aldi and Sam’s, where most food is purchased. Every contribution, large or small, directly supports a student.

Giving today means a teenager has food this week. It is a way for alumni to stand beside current Cougars and live out the message many remember from their own school days: once a Cougar, always a Cougar.
