Before the area that is now known as Benbrook was settled by Anglos, members of various Native American tribes inhabited the land. Among the inhabitants were members of the Wichita, Comanche, Caddo, and Lipan Apache tribes.
Historians also say that large herds of buffalo once roamed the area. Mary’s Creek and the Trinity River’s Clear Fork provided adequate water supply and were undoubtedly a compelling draw for early inhabitants. Though Benbrook is considered relatively young as an incorporated city, historians say it is actually one of the oldest communities in Tarrant County. Archaeologists estimate the area has been populated with native tribes for at least 11,ooo years.
Some contend the history of this area’s inhabitants is even much greater than that.
