The November 7th election for the City of Benbrook City Council seats will no longer be necessary as all 4 open seats will remain with their incumbents, who all ran unopposed.
The incumbents for the Mayor, Place 1, and Places 3, 5, & 7 all submitted applications indicating their desire to participate in the election, but they were alone in doing so. Not a single challenger applied for candidacy; therefore, there will be no need for a 2017 election. The incumbents for each seat, according to the city’s website, are listed below:
- Place 1 (Mayor) – Dr. Jerry Dittrich
- Place 3 – Dr. Larry Marshall
- Place 5 – Jim Wilson
- Place 7 – Ron Sauma
It is unclear whether the lack of challengers shows confidence in and general approval of the existing council from the city’s residents or a cumulative apathy towards local city politics.
