City of Benbrook to Spray for West Nile Virus Detection.

BENBROOK, TX — In response to a confirmed case of West Nile Virus in the area, the City of Benbrook will conduct targeted mosquito spraying on Wednesday night, September 18. The spraying will cover a half-mile radius around the 1400 block of Vernon Castle Avenue, with efforts beginning at 11:00 PM and concluding by 6:00 AM on Thursday morning, September 19, weather permitting.

Spraying Details: City crews will begin spraying at approximately 11:00 PM and will conclude by 6:00 AM on Thursday morning, September 12, weather permitting. It is important to note that the Spray Area Details

The designated spray zone is generally bounded by:

  • Mesquite Trail to the north,
  • Rio Grande Drive to the south,
  • Duane Street to the west,
  • Timberline Drive to the east.

The spraying is being carried out as a precautionary measure after a mosquito trapped in the area tested positive for West Nile Virus, as confirmed by Tarrant County Public Health.

Safety and Prevention Measures

The mosquito control pesticide being used is safe for both people and pets; however, the City encourages residents to minimize exposure by staying indoors during the spraying hours.

The City of Benbrook also reminds residents to take proactive measures to reduce the risk of mosquito bites and prevent the spread of West Nile Virus, including:

  • Eliminating standing water around your home, which serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Applying mosquito repellent when outdoors, especially during peak activity hours from dusk to dawn.
  • Wearing long sleeves and pants if spending time outdoors in the evening or early morning.
