The Benbrook mother who was accused of suffocating her two young daughters to death has been cleared of guilt by a court decision that deemed her insane at the time of the crime.
Sofya Tsygankova, the estranged wife of world-renowned pianist Vadym Kholodenko, stood trial for capital murder. Still, it didn’t take the judge too long to render a verdict because both sides appeared to be in accord regarding the mental state of the defendant.
“Defense attorney’s presented two expert witnesses who testified that Tsygankova suffered from severe depression with psychotic episodes. They said she wasn’t aware of what happened to her daughters. The defense also described a history of mental illness that started when Tsgankova was a teenager.”
