A critical vote impacting the future of Texas public education is happening today, April 16—and Benbrook residents are being called to act fast.
The Texas House is set to vote on two major education bills: SB 2, which would allocate public funds toward private school vouchers, and HB 2, aimed at boosting public school funding across the state.
Local advocates and education supporters are pushing back against SB 2, citing concerns about lack of accountability, limited access for rural communities, and the ability of private schools to turn away students. On the other hand, HB 2 has gained momentum for proposing increased per-student funding, added resources for teachers, and setting a stronger foundation for future investment in public schools.
Residents are encouraged to contact their representatives today—an action that only takes a few minutes—and consider joining others at the Capitol this Wednesday to show support for public education. Those attending are urged to wear red and bring “No Vouchers” signs to the Rotunda.
