For one local mom, martial arts started as training. It became something much bigger.
As a student, parent and coach at The Forge Martial Arts Academy, she says the combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga and striking has brought a sense of confidence, accomplishment and calm that traditional strength training never quite provided.
There’s also a family connection. Her children began with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before adding kids Krav Maga, and she has watched their confidence, skills and body control grow alongside new friendships.
What keeps the family coming back, she says, is an environment that can be challenging without feeling intimidating. Classes accommodate different ages, abilities and experience levels while teaching practical self-defense skills.
For families in the Benbrook area interested in martial arts, self-defense, or simply trying something different together, more information is available on Facebook at The Forge Martial Arts Academy or at Forge817.com.
