On Thursday evenings, a quiet shift is happening inside the Benbrook Community Center YMCA.
While many families are winding down for the day, a group of young students is stepping into a space designed just for them to grow stronger, more confident, and more comfortable in their own skin.
The YMCA’s KidFit program, held every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Studio B, is tailored for kids ages 8 to 12. Led by certified personal trainer Garrett, the class introduces foundational fitness in a way that feels approachable and fun. Kids learn proper form, basic strength training, cardio, and even how to use equipment responsibly.
For many families, it fills a gap between play and structured athletics. It gives kids a place to move with purpose while building habits that can carry into their teenage years and beyond. Just as important, it creates a setting where friendships form, and confidence grows naturally.
The program is open to YMCA members, and tennis shoes are required. More information about programs and membership can be found at https://www.ymcafw.org.
For parents looking for something active, positive, and local, Thursday nights at the YMCA are becoming a steady place to start.
