Tuesday night delivered plenty of energy inside the gym as the Western Hills Cougars squared off with the Dunbar Wildcats in a physical district matchup that felt intense from the opening tip.
Western Hills came in riding momentum after a strong win over Carter Riverside, but Dunbar arrived with urgency of its own after a recent loss. That edge showed early.
The Wildcats pushed the pace, attacked aggressively on offense, and capitalized on missed defensive assignments and the Cougars’ turnovers. By halftime, Dunbar had built a sizable lead and controlled the flow of the game.
The Cougars regrouped after the break and showed renewed effort, but the gap proved too large to overcome. Dunbar stayed disciplined, shot efficiently, and closed out a 77-48 win.
The loss drops Western Hills to 7-19 on the season and 3-6 in district play, currently fifth in the standings.
The Cougars now head back on the road for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Diamond Hill-Jarvis, a team they edged earlier this season, as they look to bounce back and regain momentum.
