The Western Hills Cougars shook off the Christmas break in a big way, opening play at the Bridgeport Basketball Tournament with one of their most complete performances of the season.
Facing the Boyd Yellowjackets, the Cougars set the tone early. After a tight first quarter that ended with a slim 10–9 edge, the game settled into a physical back-and-forth battle. Western Hills carried a 19–16 lead into halftime, staying patient and composed.
That patience paid off in the second half. The Cougars came out sharper on offense and locked in defensively, holding Boyd to just two field goals in the third quarter while stretching the lead to 28–18. By the fourth, Western Hills was in full control. Defensive pressure wore down the Yellowjackets, and the Cougars steadily pulled away.
When the final horn sounded, Western Hills had secured a convincing 45–29 win, earning its fourth victory of the season and moving to 1–0 in tournament play.
Now sitting at 4–11 overall, the Cougars will be back on the court later today as they look to build momentum and keep their Bridgeport run going.
More updates and scores will follow as tournament play continues.
